I have only spend approximately 2 full days of coding and designing the VR Cricket Guy Career Mode VR cricket game. It has got me thinking if I have bitten off more than I can chew. Was the possibility of launching my own VR cricket game on the Meta Quest 3 too much to handle?
Well, as I’ve just said, I have only spent 2 full days on it, finding time around my full time job. But I am happy to say that I already have working bat and ball physics. I have a very plain work demonstration of a red ball being launched and the bat hitting the ball.
It has been a very satisfying yet frustrating process so far. I have found that changing the slightest piece of code can have dramatic effects on other parts of code. It is something that I was prepared for but it is difficult to describe the feeling of accomplishment when the code starts to work.
I have a couple of issues to deal with at the moment. I have having problems getting the ball hitting the bat sound effect to work. At the moment I am just hearing a strange ticking sound rather than my imported sound of leather on willow. I don’t think it will take too long to figure out the issue.
As soon as I get the sound effect working, I will release a social media video of my progress so far. I am determined to release working “game in progress” videos to keep everybody up to date with VR Cricket Guy – The Career Mode VR Cricket game.
So, back to the original question. Have I bitten off more than I can chew? Well, I have a working bat on ball program running after 2 days…so who knows where I will be in 2-3 months time. I fully understand that there is a long way to go, but I am fully confident that I will accomplish this VR cricket game mission.
