Galaxy Kart has officially made its way to the Meta Quest store, bringing its unique brand of wacky, fast-paced, and fun casual racing to VR enthusiasts everywhere [ DOWNLOAD ]. Inspired by classic console kart racing games, Galaxy Kart offers an exhilarating experience where players can blast around tracks, toss items, and engage in intense races using the Meta Quest controllers.
To delve deeper into Galaxy Kart’s journey, inspirations, and its arrival on Meta Quest, they spoke with Pedro M. Kayatt, CEO of VRMonkey, the developer behind this exciting title.
What Is Galaxy Kart?
Pedro Kayatt: Galaxy Kart began as an idea after I experienced Mario Kart VR at Shinjuku VRZone. The sheer fun of that experience made me realize that people at home deserved the same level of excitement. Our team brainstormed and decided we wanted an arcade kart racing game featuring crazy characters that players could embody as avatars. Each character was given a unique hero ability to customise their gameplay.

How Has Galaxy Kart Evolved Since Its Debut?
PK: The game has undergone a massive overhaul since its initial launch. We started with just 4 tracks, and now we have 18! We’ve added a Tournament mode, enhanced the multiplayer experience with built-in voice chat, and significantly improved performance for a smoother gameplay experience. The AI has been revamped, and the game balance has been fine-tuned. We’re also planning more content updates, including a new power-up and two new characters set to debut soon.
Galaxy Kart by the Numbers
PK: Galaxy Kart now features 18 tracks, 6 tournaments, 9 characters, 6 power-ups, and 4 difficulty levels: Easy, Normal, Hard, and Challenge. The game also supports multiplayer for up to six players.
What Game Modes Does Galaxy Kart Offer?
PK: Players can enjoy both single races and tournaments in single-player and multiplayer online modes. We also plan to introduce a “Tourist Mode,” where players can drive around without opponents, just to explore the tracks at their own pace.
Player Reception and Bringing Galaxy Kart to Meta Quest
PK: We’re thrilled with the positive reception so far. Players are saying things like, “I can’t believe this is running on a Quest!” and “This is the best VR Kart Racing game ever!” We’ve worked hard to ensure that the game is comfortable for players, even those sensitive to VR. We’ve included customizable settings for tunneling views in situations that might cause dizziness, and the feedback from players has been fantastic.
The Impact of Meta Quest on Galaxy Kart
PK: Meta Quest is the most popular VR headset out there, and the best way to experience Galaxy Kart is through multiplayer. Being on the Meta Quest store gives Galaxy Kart the chance to reach a broader audience, ensuring there’s always someone available for a friendly match.
Challenges in Developing for Meta Quest
PK: Initially, we thought we’d need to recreate a significant portion of the game to achieve a stable framerate on Meta Quest, but we were pleasantly surprised. Thanks to the tools available in Unreal Engine, we managed to run the same game smoothly at 72 FPS, with just some customization of graphics quality. This allowed us to deliver a high-quality experience without compromising the game’s integrity.
Lessons for Other VR Developers
PK: Focus on the art production where players will actually be looking. For Galaxy Kart, we spent too much time on 3D assets that most players don’t even notice during gameplay. Also, don’t limit yourself to what feels “safe.” We added ramps that give a boost to karts after landing, which seemed risky for VR but ended up being a key feature of the game. Lastly, believe in your project. Galaxy Kart’s first prototype was developed five years ago, and after a two-year hiatus, we’re now launching the game we always envisioned.
What’s Next for Galaxy Kart?
PK: We have an exciting roadmap ahead! The first update will introduce the Mega-Missile, a new power-up designed to take down the leading player. Following that, we’ll add two new characters: a samurai and a crash-dummy. All of these will be free updates.
Tips for New Players
PK: Keep an eye on the ground and look for boosts. The key to a great lap time is to combo boosts with ramps and never stop using your skills.
