The pair hit 38 fours and three sixes between them, and New Zealand reached their target with 82 balls to spare.

Conway’s 152* was the highest individual score in a Cricket World Cup chase, and his partnership with Ravindra was the highest for any wicket in a World Cup match.

It was a stunning performance from the Black Caps, who got off to the perfect start in their bid to win a second World Cup title.

England fans were left stunned by the defeat, as they had been expected to start their title defense with a win. However, the New Zealand bowlers were excellent, and the English batsmen struggled to cope with the conditions.

Joe Root was the only England batsman to really get going, but he was dismissed for 77, and the rest of the batsmen followed in quick succession.

The stars of the show for New Zealand were Conway and Ravindra. Conway was in imperious form, hitting the ball to all parts of the ground. Ravindra also played superbly, and the pair never looked troubled by the English bowlers.

Their partnership was a joy to watch, and it will go down as one of the great World Cup chases.

Overall, it was a perfect start to the tournament for New Zealand, and a nightmare start for England.
