Making Waves in the IPL

Jacks made a significant impact during his debut season with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. One of his standout performances was a stunning unbeaten 41-ball century against Gujarat Titans, a critical innings that propelled his team into the play-offs. This experience, he believes, has equipped him with the skills and confidence needed for the World Cup stage.

Transitioning to the International Arena

Despite the limited preparation time for England, who have only played 13 T20 matches since their triumph in Australia in November 2022, Jacks feels ready. Reflecting on his time in the IPL, he mentions the incredible atmosphere and the high expectations from fans, which have helped him handle pressure more effectively.

“It was amazing,” Jacks told BBC Sport. “The crowd, the atmosphere, and the attention in the IPL were unlike anything I’ve experienced. It felt like the perfect preparation.”

Handling Pressure with Ease

Jacks, who made his 12th appearance for England in a recent win, notes that the IPL helped him manage nerves. “Going into that game at Edgbaston, I didn’t feel overly nervous. Playing for England is incredible, but I didn’t feel an extra surge of pressure thanks to the IPL experience.”

Establishing His Role

Having played prominently at the top of the order for Surrey in the T20 Blast and various T20 franchise leagues, Jacks has found his place in the England squad. He is now set to bat at number three, a role he has adapted to over the past six months. “We’ve got two great openers who set the platform. My job is to be ready for whatever situation arises,” he explained.

Learning and Growing

Jacks has gained valuable insights from batting at number three for Royal Challengers Bangalore, adapting to different conditions and game situations. Additionally, his skills as an off-spinner could be crucial on the Caribbean pitches, known to favor slow bowlers.

“I do expect to bowl,” Jacks said confidently. “I’ll be ready. I’ve done my work, and I’m preparing like every other bowler.”

Dreams and Ambitions

Excited about the opportunity, Jacks looks forward to the T20 World Cup. “I’ve dreamed of this since I was a little boy. Missing out on past tournaments hurt, but I’m really excited for this one and hopeful we’ll win it.”

With his IPL experience under his belt, Will Jacks is poised to make a significant impact at the T20 World Cup, bringing with him a wealth of experience and confidence gained from playing in one of the most competitive cricket leagues in the world.
