Meta Confirms No New Quest Headset Without Major Breakthroughs – What It Means for VR Cricket

Meta has confirmed that it will only ship new virtual reality headsets when it has “major breakthroughs.” The company said this during its latest earnings call after reporting lower Quest headset sales.

There is currently no Quest 4 on the published roadmap. The next Meta headset that has been named is the Meta VR Glasses, expected in spring 2027 and priced around $1,300. These are positioned more as a mixed-reality glasses product than a traditional gaming headset.

What Meta Said

Meta’s Reality Labs revenue fell in the most recent quarter, with the company attributing the drop mainly to lower Quest headset sales (partly offset by growth in AI glasses). Mark Zuckerberg stated that Meta is changing its approach to virtual reality and will only release new devices when there are major breakthroughs, similar to the Meta VR Glasses announced this year.

This means the current Quest 3 and Quest 3S are expected to remain the main Meta headsets for the foreseeable future.

What This Means for VR Cricket Players

For people playing iB Cricket or other VR cricket games on Meta Quest, the practical impact is straightforward:

  • The Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S will continue to be the headsets to use for VR cricket.
  • There is no new Quest headset coming soon that would make current ones obsolete.
  • Games such as iB Cricket will keep receiving updates for the existing Quest hardware.
  • If you are thinking about buying a headset specifically for VR cricket, the Quest 3 or Quest 3S remain the recommended options.

The Meta VR Glasses (due in 2027) are a different type of product. They are lighter and designed more for mixed reality and everyday use. It is not yet clear how well traditional VR cricket games will run on them, or whether they will be a good fit for batting in a full virtual stadium.

Should You Wait for a New Headset?

Based on Meta’s current position, there is little reason to wait if your main goal is VR cricket. The Quest 3 and Quest 3S already run iB Cricket well, and Meta has indicated it will not release another Quest-style headset without a significant technical breakthrough.

If you already own a Quest 3 or 3S, you can continue using it for VR cricket without expecting a direct replacement in the near term.
