Big news for anyone who plays Forefront on Quest: Forefront crossplay is about to get a lot bigger. Triangle Factory’s 32-player VR war shooter lands on PlayStation VR2 on 5 November, and it will share servers with Quest, PC VR and Pico players. On top of that, the huge Operation: Sandstorm update dropped on 29 October. So here’s what the PS VR2 launch and the new update mean if you already own it, or you’re thinking of jumping in.
If you buy Forefront on the Meta Horizon Store, you can pop in my own promo code VRCGUY at checkout. It helps support the channel, and it works on other VR games in the store too.
What is Forefront?
Forefront comes from Triangle Factory, the studio behind Breachers and Hyper Dash. It is a large-scale military shooter, and the obvious comparison is Battlefield. Matches hold up to 32 players. You pick a class, Assault, Engineer, Medic or Sniper, and each one gets its own weapons and gadgets.
Vehicles are a big part of it too. According to the PlayStation Store listing, you can fly helicopters, drive tanks, and storm objectives in Humvees and boats. Walls can be blasted open as well, so the maps are semi-destructible. The story is set in 2035, with a private army from an energy firm called O.R.E. fighting local forces over a rare mineral.
The game launched in Early Access on 6 November 2025 and reached its full 1.0 release on 23 April 2026, according to its Steam page. It has done well on Quest. Price tracker VRDB shows a 4.5-star rating from about 4,800 Meta Store reviews.
How Forefront crossplay works from 5 November
Here’s the headline. UploadVR reports that the PS VR2 version arrives on 5 November with cross play between PC VR, Quest and Sony players. Triangle Factory first promised PS VR2 crossplay back in February, as Road to VR covered at the time. Now it finally has a date.
So who can play together? Once PS VR2 joins, the list looks like this:
- Meta Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S
- PC VR through Steam, including Valve’s Steam Frame
- Pico headsets
- PlayStation VR2 on PS5 and PS5 Pro
Also, the official Forefront page says you can link your accounts to unlock cross-platform progression, inventory sharing and in-game rewards. That’s handy if you play on more than one headset. However, the purchases themselves don’t carry over. VRDB lists the Quest version as not cross-buy, so a Steam copy won’t unlock the Quest build.
What PS VR2 players get
Sony’s headset gets a few extras. UploadVR says the PS VR2 build uses adaptive triggers and headset haptics. It also runs at 90Hz on both PS5 and PS5 Pro. The PlayStation Store page adds a catch, though. You need PS Plus for online play, and Forefront is an online-only game. You also need the Sense controllers.
Why Forefront crossplay matters for Quest players
Big multiplayer shooters live or die on player numbers. A 32-player match needs a lot of people online at the same time. That gets harder late at night here in the UK. Every extra platform feeds the same pool. In other words, adding PS VR2 should make it easier to fill lobbies, whatever headset you play on.
That said, crossplay always brings a few questions. PS VR2 players will be using different controllers, with adaptive triggers in their hands. Honestly, it’s too early to say whether that will make any real difference. Watch the community chatter in the first week after 5 November before drawing any conclusions.
There’s also the timing. Forefront already supports Valve’s Steam Frame, and you can read more about Valve’s VR strategy and the Steam Frame price in my earlier post. Now Sony’s audience joins too. So Forefront sits on almost every major VR platform, which is a nice spot to be in.
What the Operation: Sandstorm update adds
Before PS VR2 even launches, Triangle Factory has given everyone a lot to chew on. The Operation: Sandstorm update went live on 29 October. The full patch notes on UploadVR list the following highlights:
- Breakthrough mode: a mix of Conquest and Rush. Attackers must capture every point in a sector before pushing on, while defenders try to hold the line. It runs on Tunnels, Siberia, Mauritania and Fjord.
- A knife: the game’s first melee weapon. Knife kills block revives, give extra score and hand you some ammo. You also move faster when only holding the knife.
- The FMS rifle: a new burst rifle. MIXED says Assault and Medic players can unlock it.
- Operations: a progression track that is a battle pass in all but name. Daily and weekly challenges earn points for free rewards, and a paid premium tier adds extra cosmetics.
- bHaptics support: for TactSuit vests, TactSleeve and TactVisor.
There’s a long list of fixes as well. These include broken controller rebinding, equipment randomly dropping or swapping hands, and whole parties getting kicked when the leader hit an error. Steam Frame owners also get “improved foveated rendering”, but MIXED points out the notes give no figures. So don’t expect a benchmark from that line.
Is the battle pass a worry?
Some players groan at the words “battle pass”, and that’s fair. From what’s been published, though, the knife and FMS rifle are free unlocks. The paid premium tier covers cosmetics such as character and vehicle skins, weapon patterns and charms. So, as things stand, you won’t need to pay extra to get the new weapons.

Is Forefront worth it on Quest 3 or 3S?
If you like big team shooters, it’s well worth a look. It supports Quest 2, Quest Pro, Quest 3 and Quest 3S, and it needs an internet connection. VRDB lists the comfort level as moderate, with seated and standing play supported. The download is about 8.7GB, so check your storage first.
Price-wise, VRDB showed it at £19.99, down from £27.99, when it last checked on 31 October. Store sales come and go, so check the listing before you buy. There are also optional in-game purchases.
If you want something smaller, there are other options. EXOSHOCK, the co-op VR shooter that just hit Early Access, is built around squads rather than 32-player wars. Meanwhile, FireZone, the free VR war game, costs nothing to try. And for a lighter take on team battles, Airsoft Allstars VR is another team shooter worth a look. Forefront crossplay FAQ
Does Forefront have crossplay?
Yes. It already works across Quest, Steam and Pico. From 5 November, PS VR2 players join the same servers too.
Is my progress shared across platforms?
Triangle Factory says linking your accounts unlocks cross-platform progression and inventory sharing. Still, you need to buy the game on each store separately.
Do I need PS Plus on PS VR2?
Yes. The PlayStation Store listing says PS Plus is required for online play.
What to watch next
The big test comes on 5 November. Look out for queue times, server stability and how PS VR2 players settle in. Also keep an eye on whether Triangle Factory follows Sandstorm with more Operations. If it keeps up this pace, Forefront could be one of the busiest VR shooters going into winter.
