PAYDAY: Aces High robs its first VR bank on Thursday 5 November, and if you’re planning to play Payday Aces High on Quest, there’s a fair bit to know first. Fast Travel Games’ four-player heist shooter costs $24.99 and launches on Meta Quest, SteamVR and Steam Frame on the same day. So here’s a plain-English rundown of what it is, what’s been confirmed and what’s still a mystery.
Buying it on the Meta Horizon Store? Then you can enter my own promo code VRCGUY at checkout. It’s a nice easy way to support what I do here, and it works on other VR games too.
What is PAYDAY: Aces High?
It’s a VR spin-off of Starbreeze’s long-running Payday series, made by VR studio Fast Travel Games. Like the flat-screen games, it’s all about pulling off heists with your crew. Road to VR says up to four players can team up to hit banks, museums and even a luxury penthouse apartment.
You also build your own loadout of weapons, gadgets and skills. Then your crew decides how to play it. The official PAYDAY news post sums up the choice nicely: go in the stealthy “Clubs” way, or the guns-blazing “Spades” way. The villain you’re getting revenge on is Warren Jupiter.
Payday Aces High on Quest: price, date and headsets
Here are the key facts, all from official or well-known sources:
- Release date: Thursday 5 November 2026.
- Price: $24.99, confirmed by Fast Travel Games. A UK price hadn’t been widely reported, so check the store listing.
- Platforms: Meta Quest, SteamVR and Steam Frame. The official post also mentions a possible PS VR2 launch later.
- Players: up to four in co-op.
- Steam bonus: Road to VR says the Steam version includes both the PC VR build and the native Steam Frame build.
On Quest, the final playtest was open to Quest 3 and 3S owners. That’s a good sign for the newer headsets. If you’re still on a Quest 2, check the Meta Horizon Store listing before you buy.
Is there crossplay between Quest and PC?
This is the big unanswered question. The Steam page lists cross-platform multiplayer as a feature. However, Fast Travel hasn’t explained exactly how it works between Quest and PC. VR.org also noted that the studio’s own wrap-up of the August playtest listed “0 crossplay friends (apologies)”. So I’d treat crossplay as one to confirm on launch day.
What the playtests showed
Fast Travel has tested this game in public twice. The first was a capped playtest in August. VR.org reports that 7,456 players took part. Then a final, open playtest ran from 19 to 26 October, alongside Steam Next Fest.
That final demo had two heists. One was the Flowtrust Bank, and the other was the new Cosmopolitan Museum of Art. Everyone who joined gets a free Kitty Mask in the full game at launch. So if you played the demo, look out for it on 5 November.
The press reaction has been positive so far. UploadVR played the August closed playtest and said it could be the next go-to VR shooter to play with friends. Meanwhile, the official Payday site says the game passed 100,000 wishlists in late October. Of course, previews and wishlists aren’t the same as a finished game, so wait for launch reviews if you’re unsure.
How it compares with other Quest co-op shooters
Payday’s big selling point is planning. Most VR co-op shooters are about surviving waves or clearing levels. Here, you can sneak through a heist without firing a shot, or you can go loud. That choice gives it a different feel from straight shooters.
For comparison, EXOSHOCK, a one-to-four player co-op shooter in Early Access, is all about boarding hostile starships. On the other hand, if you’d rather try a big team battle for free, FireZone is a free VR war game on Quest. And if you want bigger single-player adventures too, my list of AAA games on the Meta Quest 3 is worth a browse.
What about Steam Frame?
The Steam Frame angle is interesting. Valve’s new headset launched in September, and Fast Travel is shipping a native build for it. However, VR.org found that neither the game nor the demo had Valve’s Steam Frame compatibility rating yet. If you’re curious about the headset itself, I covered Valve’s VR strategy and Steam Frame price recently.
Getting ready to play Payday Aces High on Quest
If you’ve already decided to jump in, a little prep goes a long way. First, wishlist it on the Meta Horizon Store so you get a nudge when it goes live. Next, sort out your crew before Thursday evening, because a heist game with random players can be hit and miss. Also, make sure your Quest has room for a fresh download and the latest system update installed.
Finally, set aside a proper evening for it. Planning heists with friends rarely takes ten minutes, especially if someone in the group gets impatient. In short, Payday Aces High on Quest looks like a game for a group night, not a quick five-minute blast.
Should you buy it on day one?
It depends on your crew. Payday has always been a game best played with friends. If you have three mates with headsets, Payday Aces High on Quest looks like an easy evening sorted. If you mostly play alone, wait for launch reviews first. That way, you’ll know how it plays without a full team.
Also think about your headset. Quest 3 and 3S owners were included in the playtest, so they look safest. Finally, remember Meta’s refund rules. You can usually request a refund within 14 days, as long as you’ve played for under two hours.
