A lot of people want to know if standing at the crease in iB Cricket on the Meta Quest 3 feels anything like real cricket. Rather than just giving my own opinion, I took a Quest 3 along to the Kent County Cricket Club media day so their players could try it themselves.
The Players Who Had a Go
Sam Billings and Daniel Bell-Drummond were among the first to put the headset on. Several other men’s squad players also stepped up, and members of the Kent women’s team — including Megan Belt, Sophie Singer, and Amy Gordon — joined in as well.
How They Reacted to the Pace and Difficulty
On Ultra Insane mode the left-arm quicks were coming in at 145–160 km/h. Multiple players called the speeds “scary” and said the ball felt genuinely fast. A few were beaten or dismissed early and immediately wanted another go, which is usually a good sign.
Other things that stood out:
- Good timing was rewarded and poor timing was punished.
- The stadium crowd and atmosphere added to the immersion.
- Even players who face quality bowling every week found it challenging and entertaining.
What This Tells Us About Realism on the Quest 3
The feedback from the Kent players suggests that iB Cricket on the Meta Quest 3 captures the core feeling of facing a bowler better than most people expect. You still have to watch the ball, play the line and length, and commit to the shot. It is not a perfect replica of every aspect of real cricket, but for a VR game it is as close as it currently gets.
If you want to try it for yourself, the Ultimate iB Cricket Setup Guide walks through everything you need. Tracking problems are covered in How to Fix Tracking Issues in iB Cricket on Quest 3. For the bat I use and recommend, see the Best VR Cricket Bat for Meta Quest post. You can also set up your own team names by following the steps in How to Edit Player Names in iB Cricket.
The different grounds are ranked in the Best iB Cricket Stadiums guide if you want to know which ones are worth loading first.
